Maximize Value with Smarter Material Recovery: A Common Plant Layout That Delivers Results

Recovering more value from a material your business already buys can be a transformative step for many recycling operations. Whether you're processing scrap metal, demolition debris, end-of-life vehicles, municipal solid waste (MSW), or ASR (automotive shredder residue), uncovering hidden value in your current stream can significantly increase revenue and reduce disposal costs.

At Process Equipment, we specialize in helping businesses optimize recovery with custom systems designed to improve throughput, reduce labor, and increase downstream purity.

A Proven Plant Layout for Effective Metal Recovery

The plant layout below is one of the most common configurations we build. It’s ideal for operations focused on recovering ferrous and non-ferrous metals from a variety of material streams and maximizing efficiency in separation.

1. Wolf 9500 DT Shredder

A powerful dual-shaft shredder designed for high-volume applications. The Wolf 9500 DT handles large, bulky material such as appliances, ELVs (end-of-life vehicles), demolition scrap, and more—breaking it down into consistent, manageable pieces for further separation.

2. EHT 8220 Trommel Screen

The EHT 8220 separates material into three distinct size fractions, improving the performance of downstream equipment. Accurate sizing at this stage ensures higher purity and recovery rates for both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

3. Modular Scrap Drum + Picking Stand

This step combines automated and manual recovery. The magnetic drum efficiently separates ferrous metals, while the picking stand allows operators to remove high-value materials such as electric motors, meatballs, starters, or alternators. This manual recovery line also serves as a quality control point.

4. THM ECS 2000 Eddy Current Separator

Designed to recover zorba (non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper), the THM ECS 2000 separates non-magnetic metals from the remaining material stream. An optional secondary picking station can be added to target insulated copper wire (ICW), stainless steel, and other high-value items.

Scalable & Customizable for Your Operation

Every plant layout we build is adaptable and modular. Depending on your material stream, throughput, and space constraints, we can integrate:

  1. Air separation units for light fractions
  2. Advanced control panels with remote monitoring
  3. Dust suppression systems
  4. Custom infeed and discharge conveyors
